Christmas Market Edinburgh

Christmas in Edinburgh is a truly magical experience for the whole family. It’s the perfect city to visit, with so many Christmas events, all within walking distance of the Knight Residence Serviced Apartments, making it easier for you to pack in more fun during your stay.

Here are just a few of the fun events at Edinburgh’s Christmas 2016.

European Christmas Market

19th November – 7th January 2017

If you’re spending Christmas in Edinburgh, The European Christmas Market is one of the most popular Christmas events in Edinburgh.  Free to enter, the Christmas market is located at the east end of Princes St Gardens, offering visitors the opportunity to buy an array of crafts and gifts from around Europe. The Christmas lights, the decorations, the delicious aromas of warming food, create a unique festive shopping experience.

Princes Street Gardens is around a 15 minute walk from the Knight Residence Serviced Apartments.

Markets open 10am – 10pm.

Markets open at midday on 19 November, close at 8pm on 24 December, are closed 25 December, open 11am 26 December and 1 January.

Santa Land

19th November – 7th January 2017

It’s all happening in Princes Street Gardens, alongside the Christmas Market, you’ll find the amazing Santa Land that will transport you to the magical land of all things Santa!  Kids and adults will love this family fun experience.  Visit Santa in his Grotto, take the Santa train, ride on a reindeer or beat the Christmas Tree Maze.

Santa fun starts on the 19th November and continues through the festive period until early January.  Advanced booking for some of the events within Santa Land is required.  Visit the links for more information about opening times and prices.

Ice Skating

18th November – 7th January 2017

Family fun on the ice!  Glide, slip or slide around the historic St Andrew Square ice rink.   Whether you’re a novice or an experienced skater, the ice rink is a tradition that everyone can enjoy.  Book your ice skating session and you are assured magical memories and perhaps just a few bruises!

The Street of Light

20th November – 24th December 2016

By popular demand the amazing Street of Light is back for Christmas in Edinburgh 2016.   Located on West George Street, The Street of Light will be lit up from 20 November and will continue until 24 December.  There will be two nightly performances starting at 6pm and 8pm each evening throughout the festive period. The fabulous light display will be accompanied by music performed by local choirs and bands which include the Edinburgh Festival Chorus, Royal Scottish National Orchestra Junior Chorus, and fiddle music from Scottish Bands.  This year audiences will be encouraged to dance along with the music!

Christmas on Stage

There’s a Christmas show for all the family this year.

Edinburgh’s Christmas has joined with The Lyceum, Traverse Theatre and Usher Hall to bring you Christmas on Stage.   A line up of popular family shows for all age groups this festive season. Discover the magic of celebrated stories coming to life on stage.
